It occurred to me today that we could start keeping records of games played between members, whether at club meetings or elsewhere. By records, I mean not necessarily complete kifu (though that's a possibility), but basic statistics like who was white/black, who won by how much, how big a handicap was given, and the strengths of either player. Submitting these records would be optional, but would have a few benefits:
1. Keeping track of a player's progress.
2. Determining more accurately the relative strengths of two players for handicap games.
As for keeping track of records, this forum could do for a start: someone can post game records on a dedicated thread. If the need arises, I can write a little web/database app to keep track of records and facilitate submitting them. What do you guys think about the records idea?

Ross, didn't you start something like that? I know you wrote down a few game results...
But ya, I'm all for keeping general statistics. Whoever has any stats, feel free to make a dedicated thread and we can constantly update it.

I made a simple little DB app for storing games, and put it up here: 74.192.30.230:1000/gc/main.phpI'm still going to go back and make it prettier, but take a look and let me know what you think or what could be changed.

omg, NICE. Looks good. My only confusion is on the 'result' do i put "+number" then choose white or black? Do i put "W+10" ? What's the proper way to input? Also, maybe a 'komi' input would be helpful. Otherwise, it's perfect. Also, I laughed when I saw the option to choose dan I know it'll be awhile before i'll ever be able to choose that! Thanks a ton Ben. Looks good. EVERYONE If I dont hear from Johny or Tim later today, I'm just going to go ahead and organize the first meeting to be SATURDAY, August 25th at 6:00 pm in HULLABALOO, and the plan is to order PIZZA for the first meeting. The meeting after that will be @ B&N, and we will then rotate. I'll send out a mass e-mail later today.

Yeah, result's a little confusing. Basically you just put the number in the text field and choose who won, or "resign" if that's appropriate. When I get back tomorrow I'll make it clearer.
Looking forward to the first meeting.

Records site is updated; I matched the color scheme to this forum, and it should be easier to understand.

Ben, due to my awesome typing skills, I added an extra 'e' to your name, >_> I don't know how to change it, but I figured you did. Also, is it alright that I used my (and tim's) KGS rank? (maybe add yours, too?). Your call. ^_^ Finally, you and Ross asked about the rating algorithm...all I have to say is...GOOD LUCK: senseis.xmp.net/?KGSRatingMath

I changed it, but it made me wonder whether I should include some way for anyone to fix mistakes like that in the next version. I made a little backend so I could delete test entries without having to touch the database directly; I'll try adding editing to there for now. KGS ranks are what I had in mind, so no problem there.
I think I've seen that rating page before, and I still don't quite get it. Maybe if I reread it a few more times...
